Install Ceiling Fan Without Electrical Box

Installing a ceiling fan chandelier or other heavy light fixture in an existing ceiling requires the right junction box j box.

The box must be mounted firmly either by attaching it directly to a framing member or by using a fan rated brace. Ceiling fan boxes must include bracing that attaches to the ceiling joists to support the greater weight and vibration that comes with a ceiling fan installation. Turn off electrical power to the fan at the electrical panel and use an appropriate testing device to ensure no power is present at the light fixture before you begin work. The basic installation of a ceiling fan is no different from that of a standard light fixture. Use wire nuts to attach the fan s black or colored wire and white wire to matching wires in the ceiling box.
